The Second Grade Classrom at the Ophir School in Big Sky, MT, will be creating Mendhi-Art Gloves out of recyled materials, latex gloves, special pens and filler. Mendhi is a tradition that originated in india, and is the practice of decorating hands with radial designs and intricate geometric patterns wtih henna. The idea is to invite good luck and ward off evil, and the designs may represent the sun, or light. In our World Art theme, we will use this practice and bring it to our own Holiday of Halloween, bringing light and good will to a celebration more familiar to our region. The students may wear the gloves as they are decorated, to get a more sense activated feel of drawing on their own hands without the mess (!) and bring it home as a lovely decoration.
